Solicitation of Charitable Donations

Most states require charitable organizations that seek to solicit donations to register with the appropriate State agency. The purpose of such registration is to allow the State to regulate fundraising activities conducted by charities. Information which is typically requested includes, but is not limited to, general information about the charity, the purposes and programs of the charity, the purposes for which the donations will be used, the names and contact information of the charity’s officers and directors, and financial information about the charity. If your charity plans to solicit donations from the public, then it will probably be required to register with the State in which the charitable solicitations will be conducted.
